Dave Johnson: Lead Vocals, Background Vocals, Rhythm Guitars, Shenanigans
Dave’s had the bug since he first heard Van Halen and started playing drums in the 8th grade. He spent his 20’s kicking around the Little Rock/Memphis/Dallas circuit with southern rock outfit Sold Out, and progressive rockers Happy Fiche and Ground Zero. When diagnosed with a fatal heart disease in 1998, he retreated to the studio to begin work on his first solo album “Between the Doubting” featuring members of Evanescence, Living Sacrifice, and Machina. He continued playing live with The Dreadnaughts through the 00’s and released a second solo album “Straining Toward the Light.” In 2010 he finally succumbed to heart failure and began the long wait for a transplant.
Between monthly hospitalizations between 2013-15 he recorded his third album “Instead of Wither,” a concept album about his struggle with faith and spirituality. In 2015 he was implanted with a total artificial heart (TAH) at Hershey Med Center in hopes a real donor heart would follow closely behind. After finally receiving a real donor heart in May of 2016, he began work on the “Conversations from Room 1170” project – a double concept album and companion book that utilized songs, blog posts, and journal entries from his 6 year wait for a transplant. He currently volunteers with Gift of LIfe and The Bodhana Group, and speaks at schools, colleges, and to other groups about organ donation and his experience.
