About the band…

Dave Johnson: Lead Vocals, Background Vocals, Rhythm Guitars, Shenanigans

Dave’s had the bug since he first heard Van Halen and started playing drums in the 8th grade. He spent his 20’s kicking around the Little Rock/Memphis/Dallas circuit with southern rock outfit Sold Out, and progressive rockers Happy Fiche and Ground Zero. When diagnosed with a fatal heart disease in 1998, he retreated to the studio to begin work on his first solo album “Between the Doubting” featuring members of Evanescence, Living Sacrifice, and Machina. He continued playing live with The Dreadnaughts through the 00’s and released a second solo album “Straining Toward the Light.” In 2010 he finally succumbed to heart failure and began the long wait for a transplant.

Between monthly hospitalizations between 2013-15 he recorded his third album “Instead of Wither,” a concept album about his struggle with faith and spirituality. In 2015 he was implanted with a total artificial heart (TAH) at Hershey Med Center in hopes a real donor heart would follow closely behind. After finally receiving a real donor heart in May of 2016, he began work on the “Conversations from Room 1170” project – a double concept album and companion book that utilized songs, blog posts, and journal entries from his 6 year wait for a transplant. He currently volunteers with Gift of LIfe and The Bodhana Group, and speaks at schools, colleges, and to other groups about organ donation and his experience. Rachael Thomas: Lead Vocals, Background Vocals, Keys, Percussion, Hi-jinx

Rachael comes to us from the land of milk and chocolate.  In her spare time she screams a ton, but that’s usually just the way we like it.  Her powerful voice makes a mockery of her small frame.

She may look straight at you through her long, dark hair… but DO NOT BE FOOLED – she’s HUNGRY, and she may be randomly deciding what she needs for dinner – you or a hamburger.

Rachael has a powerful voice and a great beat, and her keyboarding is always in tune…

Tony Encinias: Lead Guitar, Lead Vocals, Background Vocals, Tomfoolery
Tony has a historically good temper and an even better guitar affinity.  A co-founder of the band, Tony loves to put on a show.

Tony enjoys long walks on the golf course and days spent gazing at the amber sun while dreaming of desert skies.

Tony’s lead work is constant and evolving. His solos are intense and powerful.

Matt Clawson: Drums, Lead Vocals, Background Vocals, Antics

Matt was rained down upon the band from the waters of the Polar Glaciers.  He fills our hearts with rhythm and our souls with groove.  Matt loves to hit stuff with sticks, which is good, for us, because we aren’t a bongo-style band.
Matt has so much rhythm and groove that his pulse drives his heartbeat and not the other way around.

Matt’s sound can best be summarized as Driving Groove

JD Ronson:  Bass, Backing Vocals, Lead Vocals, Mischief

JD and Tony met once upon a time not so long ago in a basement close to a mountain.  JD and Tony realized that they could create an amazing band, and joined forces shortly thereafter to found Hemlock Groove.

JD refused to answer questions for the bio, so he will be forever known as “He Who Will Not Be Entertained”.  A man of few words and fewer jokes, he is a poor sport and a failure at nearly every venture.  His spirit is maimed and his choices are reckless.

As everyone knows, the bassist is the most unnecessary member of the band, so sometimes he sings along to a dead mic (we let him hear himself in the monitor…)

JD’s sound can best be described as Fretless Alchemy
